Where is all the tea.....

.....in China? One of the surprising things for me is that most restaurants I have encountered so far do not serve tea! In fact, this afternoon friends in Harbin took me to lunch at a very popular restaurant and all we got was hot water. Quanting went someplace nearby to buy tea leaves to put in the hot water! Friday I had lunch in the university dining hall and had the same experience of no tea, in fact nothing to drink except soup! I've had very little tea since leaving Bob and Emmy's Wednesday morning and tomorrow I'm hoping to buy one of those electric hot water pots, so I can start making my own before I have withdrawal.

Hi Jim! What a surprise to have a paucity of tea. What do people drink at home? How is the water for drinking? I can't imagine how many things must be completely different. I think of you often, I know you will thrive despite your strange, tea-drinking America ways! Be a beacon, dear friend. -Wade

Hey Jim,

I'll send you some tea if you fly back and take care of the snow we're going to get. Possibly 2-5 inches. Who would of thought in the sunny "cold" south.

I have been told not to drink water from the tap without boiling first. Today I finally bought an electric "kettle", so now tea is becoming a part of my diet again! I'm told people drink a lot of hot water as opposed to tea, surprisingly - that may not be true in all parts of China.

Regarding the snow, Bope, no deal! I'm very happy to be without it!! Keep your shovel handy.

I love just drinking hot water - love tea too though! In Taiwan we never had anything to drink with meals except at the end of one meal we had cold sweet soup with gojii berries in it. Our largest food adventure lately will be that Ming will try his first authentic Philly cheese steak this weekend! Hope you are doing well!
